Sorry for the lack of updates lately... My life has been rather hectic and fall 1/4 is just starting. The hard drive of my computer is still lacking the space I need to scan high res images in. I should be getting an external drive next week, so look for those polaroids from New York soon.

I also purchased this image the other day. The name on the back says Jennie Moelling and it was shot right here in Philadelphia. Enjoy!

Expect updates in the next two days, I just got back from a few days in Ny. I havent had the internet in a week or so and my harddrive on my computer is completely full, so scanning and such has been near impossible. I made some room and started scanning in new polaroids. I'll try to have them up by Monday at the latest.

got bored and walked around my neighborhood yesterday for a few minutes... nothing special really, I just liked the light in the first and I have always been in love with lines and repetition.

The last image was also from the other day, I forgot to scan it with the rest of the images

I think I am going to start dragging a tripod around more. All the f4 handheld stuff is too soft for my liking.

I purchased this old image yesterday... for two dollars.

I got bored before work and decided to walk around Center City a bit. I decided to explore the Kimmel Center some considering I haven't been inside since my first week in Philadelphia. I plan on going back with a tripod.

Here are some of the shots from Thursday.

Tribute to Nadar...

A quarter ago for my Digital Illustration class I decided to play with a digital tintype/ambrotype idea, I wanted to see if I could create a realistic tintype through digital printing/photoshop. For the course we had to demonstrate photoshop skills, so I decided to "hand colour" the images and drop backrounds into them. I used old Nadar portraits as my images because I am a huge fan of his and have wanted to do a project with his work in it for some time. I tried to keep everything period specific. The boxes I had made/engraved in Colorado. I stained the boxes.The engraving is a piece of an Aubrey Beardsley cover which I modified. Beardsley being my favorite artist of this period seemed only right for the detail. I wanted the images to be presented like that of a daguerrotype/ambrotype so i decided to line one side with velvet. The rope was added to mimick a gold frame. This was a really fun project and came out pretty close to how I had hoped it would. The images actually lose/gain tones depending on how they are turned in the light, much like that of an ambrotype. Whites go silver, skintones fade , etc.

Note- This was a test run for a larger more elaborate series I plan on doing with my own models.

Vintage Images

I love old images of well styled people, From their clothes to their classical poses. When I have a bad day, sometimes I'll go to one of the stores in the city that has a lot of old images and find some to cheer me up. Here are some of the images i've found so far

Souvenirs From NY

While in Soho, I stumbled across a photo dealer who specializes in old images ranging from Daguerreotypes to vintage prints. I plan on going back for some Daguerreotypes or ambrotypes when I have more money. But I did pick these up as well as two stereo cards ( I'll post the stereo cards when I put up the rest of my vintage image collection sometime this week)

New York.

So I'm currently sitting at this weird liberal school in Yonkers, Ny called Sarah Lawrence... Its rather pretty but so weird at the same time. Maybe this place is what college was what i'd hoped it would be. Maybe if I ever go to grad school I'll think about here, it seems pretty chill. On the downside of yesterday, I didnt get to go to fashion week which really bummed me out, but it was out of my hands. I did however, get to see some old places and some new ones in Nyc. I shot some polaroids and found a street vendor with some old photos, tintypes, stereocards etc etc. Which is to say that I now have a few more images of well dressed people in my old photo collection, two more stereocards and a really lovely tintype. The man had the most amazing Daguerreotypes and Ambrotypes but I'll have to go back when I have some more money for a few of them. Expect images to be posted either late tonight, or sometime tomorrow.

Oh... I almost forgot. I would kill to live in New York. Between the places, the people, the clothes, the food, etc etc... I'd never get bored here.

Les Chats

Here are some polaroids I shot the other day.

All images were shot with a Hasselblad 500c- 120mm lens

Enjoy!

Le Chat- Baudelaire

My beautiful cat, come onto my heart full of love ;
Sheathe the claws of your paw;
And let me plunge into your adorable eyes
Of metal and agate.

When my fingers lazily fondle
Your head and your elastic back,
And my hand gets drunk with the pleasure
Of feeling your electric body,

I see in spirit my personaly lady. Her Glance,
Like yours, dear creature,
Deep and cold, slits and splits like a dart,

And from her feet to her head,
A subtle atmosphere, a dangerous perfume,
Swims around her brown body.
